Meeting of the Minds

(Doctors: On this page you will find specific information about the meeting, the current topic, speakers and meeting schedule. You can also register now, read a review of the last meeting and testimonials, view photos from past meetings and see hotel/airport suggestions.)

This annual event is sponsored by the GCSS and takes place in various cities in the US. The purpose of the Meeting of the Minds is to create a forum for a serious discussion of specific aspects of the Gonstead System. Each year the meeting has a different topic for discussion with guest presenters, speakers, panels, and research updates.

The Meeting of the Minds is an opportunity to learn from many of the Gonstead system’s longest practicing and accomplished Doctors. Because it is a participatory event, MoM is open to GCSS Fellows, Diplomates, Diplomate-candidates, and any Gonstead chiropractor who has been in practice at least 20 years. Membership with the GCSS is not a pre-requisite.

Register now for this great weekend or by E-mailing  michele@gonstead.com, or by telephone. Domestic callers use the toll free 888-556-4277. International callers should call 831-476-1873.  If you have questions or program ideas and input contact Charles Martin, DC bakview@juno.com.

2009 Gonstead Meeting of the Minds-VI
"Everyday Challenges And Everyday Results
In The Advanced Gonstead Doctor's Practice"

October 10 - 11, 2009
Northwestern Health Sciences University
2501 W. 84th St., Bloomington, MN 55431, 952-888-4777
http://www.nwhealth.edu/

This year, Meeting of the Minds attendees will examine in-depth, vertebral misalignment and its most accurate correction. Gary R. Pennebaker, DC, DPhCS will set the stage by showing how the practitioner’s clinical biases can either prevent or allow him/her to find the key involved vertebral segment. Joseph Sweere, DC, DABCO, DACBOH, FICC will demonstrate the fine details of common and unique spinal disc deformities and will discuss the significant problems that doctors and the profession as a whole have when their importance is de-emphasized. Roger Coleman, DC, GCSS Director of Research, will explain how intersegmental misalignment and regional spinal distortions are inter-related, from his perspective of the research he has done in regional spinal changes.

The Ultimate Pit Class is where greater analysis specificity and vertebral corrections will be applied. Every doctor will have the opportunity to set-up and/or adjust specific listings and spinal conditions with constructive input. Doctor’s individual “styles” will be observed. Unique spinal x-rays from the NWHSU radiology department archive will be shown, discussed, and used to perform mock set-ups. Extremities, geriatric, and pediatric set-ups will be demonstrated and discussed. This is an important opportunity to get feedback and to continue to hone our adjusting skills.

Early Sunday morning, Mary Tuchscherer, MSc, DC, PhD and Dave Geary, DC, will put the spotlight on the neural component of the subluxation, specifically, the autonomic and immune systems involvement.

Drs. Tuchscherer and Sweere are professors of their subjects at the College of Chiropractic at NWHSU.

Having met the challenges of locating, understanding and correcting the subluxation, Mark Lopes, DC, GCSS Research Committee Chair, will moderate discussions and presentations on the interesting “results” that occur every day in the advanced Gonstead doctor’s practice. Doctors Tuchscherer, Sweere, Geary and Coleman will be standing by to help the group be aware of the available literature relative to the cases. The cases will come from doctors in attendance. Please send a brief description of your case(s) or clinical observation(s) to Charles Martin, DC, at Bakview@Juno.Com for proper program placement.

The final session of the weekend will be a presentation by Paul Hopkins, DC. He will tell of the everyday challenges and results he saw Dr. Gonstead encounter in the 70s, during the 4 years that he spent at the Gonstead Clinic.

This important weekend will change your skill level and your appreciation of the finesse that is involved in Gonstead chiropractic practice. It will be a full weekend of useful clinical and scientific information presented in an interactive-participatory format. If you qualify to attend this meeting, then you should participate in it in order to continue to improve your skills. If you are a Diplomate Candidate and are taking the written and practical test that weekend, you may attend the full program. The candidates who complete all their requirements that weekend will be recognized.

All proceeds go to fund Gonstead research. Speakers donate their time and pay their own travel and accommodation expenses.

The "ChiroStory Cam” will be running in the hallway throughout the weekend to record the highlights and interesting events of your Chiropractic life/experiences.
