Gonstead Extravaganza 2009 Huge Success!
By Rick Elbert, DC
Dr. Aimee Hamilton and her staff organized the “Gonstead Extravaganza” which occurred over the weekend of April 25 & 26 at the historic Gonstead Clinic in Mt. Horeb, WI. When the numbers were totaled, over 180 registrants from 6 chiropractic colleges, doctors from 13 states and Europe were in attendance. Yes, the second consecutive Gonstead Extravaganza was a HUGE success! Dr. Amiee Hamilton did a monumental job organizing 6 classes with a GMI and GCSS instructor in each class changing every two hours on Saturday and Sunday. Her staff, plus Dr. Jesse Davis, handled the registration and CEU time certification. The Troxell interns transported adjusting equipment for all the classes from Park View and were on-hand to provide anything the instructors needed. A special thanks to Dr. Amiee, her staff and the Troxell interns for their work on this very special event.
Dr. Pete DeLoe presented the opening remarks, and Dr. Dave Geary announced that the instructors had a combined total of over 360 years of practice experience. The instructors did a superb job relating Dr. Gonstead's work to the attendees, as well as, what the doctors have done to augment Gonstead's work.
It truly was gratifying to see doctors from both organizations sharing the podium at this event. It was one of the best seminars I have attended since those I attended while Dr. Gonstead was alive.
Multiple classes were conducted simultaneously allowing students to rotate around to each class. Two primary classes, Cervical Chair taught by Dr. DeLoe and Pelvic Bench by Drs. Herb Wood and Roger Kasperbauer, took place continuously throughout the weekend. As always, Drs. Linda Mullin and Patrick Ryan were impressive with their extensive knowledge and instruction in Gonstead pediatric adjustments. Not to be outdone, Dr. Denny O’Hara captivated the audience with his advanced Interverterble Disc Case Management. Dr. Gary Pennebaker brought thought-provoking Chiropractic philosophy to the table, while attendees were inspired by Dr. Gary Phaff’s proficiency in Extremities instruction. Life University faculty member Dr. Lydia Dever and myself presented X-ray analysis, and the always enthusiastic, Dr. Jeanne Taylor with Dr. Dan Lyons brought their skill and expertise to the Knee Chest class. Drs. Steve Rindal, Pam Troxell and Perry Chinn utilized their many years of practice experience to present an out-standing Case Management series.
All in all, students were treated to the one-on-one attention needed for proficiency in the Gonstead Technique. Where else has there been this kind of concentrated Gonstead instruction in one weekend? If you missed this extraordinary experience, plan to attend the 2010 Extravaganza.
Be sure to visit the GMI and GCSS websites. (www.gonsteadmethodology.com & www.gonstead.com) GMI has seminars in July, September and November in Mt. Horeb, WI.
